This week TReND volunteers have been at the International Centre of Insect Physiology and Ecology (ICIPE), in Nairobi (Kenya), running a “Bioinformatics approaches for Next Generation Sequencing analysis” course for an enthusiastic group representing 6 different countries from 20 different universities.
This intensive course is covering a range of topics, including introductions to programming focusing on the R statistical programming language and software development concepts such as databases and version control. The course is also explore NGS analysis topics including de novo genome and transcriptome assembly, ChIP-seq and RNA-seq, rare variant calling and population genetics.
